The Pastel Society Annual Exhibition 2023
‘Pastel without boundaries’

It is a difficult time for all of us but drawing and painting can provide a time to both reflect and lose ourselves in a creative process.
As one of the great exponents of pastel, Dame Paula Rego, once said
‘Art is the only place you can do what you like. That’s freedom.’
Pastel and similar dry media are the most direct way we can express our thoughts and whether on their own or in combination with other media,
it has infinite possibilities.

Opening and Prizes: Wednesday 24 May
Exhibition closes Saturday 3 June
How to Submit:
Artists are invited to submit work for exhibition alongside members of the Pastel Society at their Annual Exhibition 2023.
The Pastel Society seeks the best in contemporary pastel and dry media, combining traditional skills with creative originality for their 124th Annual Exhibition.
The Society promotes the use of all types of pastel, chalk or crayon whether in stick or pan form, made from pure pigment mixed with a binder including soft pastels, hard pastels, oil pastels, ink pastels, water-based pastels, Conté crayons or sticks and sanguine and other dry mediums that are similar in their application including charcoal and pencil. All of these are regarded as having no boundaries, whether on their own or in combination with other media. However, pastel or the other dry media mentioned should be the primary medium in the finished mixed media work.
The exhibition, in May 2023, offers more than fifteen prizes & awards and the opportunity to have your work seen by thousands of visitors to Mall Galleries.
'Submissions are online only and open on Friday 20 January 2023. There is only a digital selection this year. There will be one confirmation of acceptance sent out to successful artists on 6 April 2023.
Only accepted work should then be delivered on the required delivery day, framed, to the Mall Galleries' and there will be no further selection from that point. Unless the artist has framed the work badly and in a manner that is out of key with the simple instructions for framing or failed to protect the work with clear glass, all works will be hung.
